I believe acting is a craft much like everyone else, and I take it very seriously. Though, for some  people they  think its this allusive unattainable dream considering the "odds", and only happens to "lucky people". For others, they down play acting and consider it something that everyone can do and actors aren't to be taken seriously. Well I'm telling both parties, your WRONG. Let's start with the silly notion of odds. I really don't think they exist. Acting comes down to a few things, motive, determination, and disciple. If your in the business to get rich, famous  just stop now. With all of the criticism, sacrifice, and work it  takes you will either fall through or drop out. If your in it simply for the love and passion, and it brings you joy just to act, your in the right place. Then you need to be so determined that noone, and no road block can stop you! You have to remember though discipline is key as well, because you can have all the passion in the world, but if your lazy, it won't happen. Don't let people tell you the "odds" because that just crazy! If Abraham Lincoln had stuck with his "odds" of abolishing slavery, African Americans wouldn't be free today! If any of the great leaders or roll models ever stuck with the "odds" our world would not be the same! It just wouldn't. There would be no hope of every becoming anything more than ourselves is anyone had stuck with the "odds"! So don't think "odds", just get that out of your head right now. Focus on your motives and what your true passion is and you'll do just fine.
